In windy conditions

We have prepared for you some basic instructions which could be useful when driving in windy circumstances, especially in case of bora, which is a frequent occurrence in Primorje, and a list of traffic measures which are implemented in case of bora.

Instructions for driving in windy circumstances (bora wind):
  • Drivers of vehicles the maximum permissible weight of which exceeds 8 tonnes, please pay attention to the traffic signalling and the information portals which inform about the wind speed and the level of traffic ban. In case that your vehicle belongs to the category for which driving is banned on a certain relation, you are obliged to remove your vehicle from traffic or choose an alternative route. Non-observance of traffic restrictions can have severe consequences.
  • Reduce the driving speed and drive even more carefully than normal, also in case that the current level of traffic ban does not restrict driving with your motor vehicle.
  • Pay special attention. Namely, the bora does not have a constant direction and strength, so it can surprise you with strong, unexpected gusts from various directions.
  • Try to avoid overtaking. Namely, a gust of bora envelops both the overtaking vehicle as well as the one that is being overtaken, and the gusts of bora often push empty trailers of cargo vehicles to the adjoining traffic lane. We recommend bigger safety distance because various items can surprise you while driving, which the gusts of bora throw around in the air (for example sand from the bank, various litter, also lighter cargo from cargo vehicles, and others).
Traffic measures which are implemented in case of bora on Primorje roads:
  • 1st level: wind speed 80-100 km/h or 22-28 m/s, ban for camper vans, refrigerator trucks and sheeted vehicles up to capacity of 8 tonnes, for other vehicles speed limit 40 km/h;
  • 2nd level: wind speed 100-130 km/h or 28-35 m/s, ban for camper vans and all sheeted vehicles and refrigerator vehicles, for other vehicles speed limit 40 km/h;
