Issuing of a substitute vignette

A substitute vignette is issued in the cases determined in Article 15 of the Decree on toll roads and tolls for the use of toll roads (Official Gazette 109/09 and 71/11).

If a driver:

• replaces the destroyed windscreen or part of a motorbike on which a vignette was displayed,
• replaces the vehicle, windscreen or part of the motor bike during warranty period, or
• takes the vehicle to be dismantled,

he or she may request from the toll roads manager (DARS d.d.):

• to issue a replacement vignette for the same period, or
• to compensate (the proportional share of) the value of purchasing a replacement vignette, if he or she alone buys the yearly or half-year replacement vignette.

In order to acquire a substitute vignette, you have to fill out an application (click here) and also submit: 

• the removed vignette (if the serial number on the removed vignette is not legible, the accompanying coupon also has to be submitted). If the removed vignette is half-year, monthly or weekly, validity period has to be evident, otherwise the purchase invoice has to be attached;
• copy of an invoice for replacement of a windscreen / part of a motorbike issued by the workshop which replaced the windscreen, or a photocopy of the document on the handover of the vehicle for destruction and of the document on the cancellation of the vehicle from the official registry of registered vehicles. The documents have to be enclosed with their translations into Slovenian language issued by a sworn translator;
• copy of the document that proves replacement of a vehicle, windscreen of a part of a motorbike during warranty period.

The person liable for tolls should apply for a replacement vignette within 30 days in order to exercise this right.

In addition to the above, the completed request for compensating purchase value of a replacement vignettes, original coupon and invoice on purchasing a new (replacement) vignette should be attached, which are later returned to the applicant.

A user is entitled to compensation of the yearly vignette value only if he or she purchased the replacement vignette before the start of validity of yearly vignette for the following calendar year.

Toll payers can request a refund for the value of a substitute vignette from DARS in the case that he or she purchases the substitute vignette themselves. In this case, the person liable for toll has to purchase a vignette of the same type as the one being replaced (an annual vignette if an annual vignette is being replaced and a six-month vignette if a six-month vignette is being replaced). The entire value of the vignette is refund in the case of an annual vignette. In the case that a toll payer upon the purchase of a substitute vignette determines a new period of validity for half-year vignette, they are eligible for a proportionate refund for the time until the substitute or destroyed vignette expires.

For the refund of (a proportionate part) of the value of a substitute vignette, you have to fill out an application (click here) and also submit:

• enclosures previously determined for the acquisition of a substitute vignette and
• coupon and receipt of the purchase of a new (substitute) vignette.

The person liable for tolls should apply for reimbursement of the value of a replacement yearly or half-year vignette within 30 days in order to exercise this right.

Received applications without envisaged and requested supporting documents (attachments) will be rejected as unjustified.
